Pavanne for Freedom- A Prayer for America is written during the height of social unrest in the United States and the ongoing quest for  civil rights and equal treatment for all. Composed in 6/4 meter, Pavanne begins with a brief flute solo. The composer states, “Pavanne serves as a contemplative prayer that our country can overcome the prejudices that still exist.”  The work provides a wonderful opportunity for players to explore expressiveness and communicating meaning through music. A wonderful piece to tie in social studies topics relevant to today’s world.
