Dream

Description

Dream is an incredibly powerful piece which chronicles a recurring nightmare the composer had as a child, and which came back shortly before his first son was diagnosed with Autism.  The composer came to understand the dream as a foreshadowing of having his autistic son, and rather than an omen of trials to come, the dream prepared him to understand his son in ways he never expected.

Commissioned in memory of Kimberly Lawler, the Mansfield University Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma honor their sister who lost her battle to a rare disorder.  A wife, mother, and pianist who attended Mansfield University and was a member of TBE, Kim’s love for music comes through this piece which features a solo pianist.  The message from the composer is simple:  we all have dreams, hopes, and aspirations. It is not our place to dream for others, but to journey with those we love as they strive to achieve their dreams.  The roads we travel in our dreams in in our lives are full of twists and turns.  Where we end is less important than the roads we travel together.  Grade 4.5  pianist, soprano and tenor vocalists are needed as well.
